NYC Colleges Make Princeton Review’s ‘Best’ List

NEW YORK – The Princeton Review has released its annual list of the nation’s 385 best colleges, and a dozen from New York City made the grade.
But, along with scoring high on things like academics and administration, politics and quality of life, the list highlights some findings that seems less enviable.
Downtown’s Pace University, for example, ranks second in the country for least accessible professors and third for least beautiful campus.
“We chose the 385 colleges for this edition as our ‘best’ overall, academically, based on data we gathered in 2018–19 from more than a thousand school administrators about their schools’ academic programs and offerings,” Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s editor-in-chief and the lead author of the report, said.
“We are well aware, however, that applicants need more than an academic assessment to choose the colleges best for them,” Franek said. “We created our dozens of ranking lists specifically to facilitate that search. We tally our lists using data we gather directly from our surveys of students attending these colleges. Our survey asks the students about their professors, administrators, school services, campus culture, and other facets of life at their schools.”
On the overall list of the best 385 colleges, the Princeton Review says the colleges aren’t ranked in order from No.1 to No.385. Colleges are ranked on the more specific lists like “best campus food,” “best college newspaper” and “party schools.”
In all, there are 62 of these lists and each list includes a ranking of the top 20 colleges in that category.

Princeton Review says the colleges on the best 385 list are selected primarily based on the organization’s “high opinion of their academics.” Princeton Review closely analyzes more than 2,000 schools and collects feedback from students, educators, parents and advisors. The 62 specific lists that rank the top 20 schools in each category are compiled using a student survey.

Save money on books, school supplies and everything you want to enjoy college! Financial aid, back in the olden days meant grants, scholarships, work study jobs. Loans were part of the package, but since they are available, ‘common thought’ was it is not financial aid – it was however a low interest loan. If you’re dependent on your parents, and they are below a certain income, most colleges give you much monies to help you attend their school. The middle class student with 2 working parents pays much more for their child to attend school and that student often can’t get work study job on campus. Those jobs are limited to the kids with financial aid.
If you can, or your parents can, to lower your loan debt when you leave school, if you have any monies, try to pay at least the interest while you are in school. Many loans start adding interest the day they are used to pay for school. So a $10,000 loan becomes a $12,000 amount when you leave school (example each loan is different) If you pay the interest (example $25 per month) then the $10,000 loan is only $10,000 when you leave school.
