Queer Eye star Karamo Brown transforms FAMU dorm’s student lounge

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Queer Eye star and Florida A&M grad Karamo Brown returned to his Rattler roots to transform a student lounge on his alma mater’s campus.

The university says Brown, who stars in the hit Neflix series Queer Eye, paid a visit to Gibbs Hall where he transformed the student lounge into a “Zen-inspired chill zone.”

, he said, “This trip was my first time returning since graduation, and I was so excited to go back. It was great to see how the school has changed and the things that have stayed the same.”

In partnership with Homegoods, Brown gave the lounge and a dorm room a makeover with the goal of creating an inspiring shared space for Gibbs Hall’s student tenants.

“If I could re-do my college experience, I would focus more on making my dorm feel like a more inspiring space and be more reflective of my personal style,” Brown wrote in a blog post published on

Before the redesign of the lounge, it help an air hockey table, pool tables and seating areas. Post-transformation,

, the room now boasts all new furniture, an array of blue hues and pops of eye-catching color as well as an “inspiration wall.”

The lounge is also fully stocked with notebooks, writing utensils, charges and more thanks to Brown and Homegoods.

“If my experience at FAMU taught me anything, it was that my voice matters and my words have the power to inspire others, so I wanted to be sure today’s students had a communal place where they could gather and let their voices be heard like I did,” Brown told
