PLAINFIELD, NJ – Dairy Queen in Plainfield is not only known for its delicious soft serve and ice cream cakes, it is quickly becoming known for its bicycle giveaways held several times a year. And as summer winds down with fall crisp weather on the horizon, there’s no better time to grab a bike, get outdoors, and enjoy pedaling around town.

Dairy Queen Owner Donna Albanese and her husband Rich “the Bike guy” have been holding this free event for years, and through 2018 approximately 2,700 bikes have been given away.  Another 150 free bikes will be given to those in need who cannot otherwise afford to purchase a new bike on Saturday, August 24 at 8 a.m.  Helmets will also be available.

These previously-owned bikes have been repaired and restored by Rich, and several volunteers assist on the day of the event. There is always a crowd, so families are encouraged to get there early as a line often forms.

The giveaway takes place in the parking lot of the Dairy Queen and The Coffee Box located at 1367 South Avenue.  Additional parking is available in the adjacent shopping lot. The event will be held rain or shine.

The Coffee Box will be open at 7 a.m. for coffee, tea and breakfast treats.
