It’s never too early to peek in at the coaching carousel as in recent years we’ve had early turnover in the head coaching ranks before the weather starts to cool.
From talking to people throughout the college football world, it doesn’t figure to be a year of massive change (that appears more likely to be the case in 2020). But there are some big jobs in peril — USC and Auburn potentially — as well as about a dozen more at the Group of 5 level.
Many offensive minds considered rising stars have already moved up to head coaching jobs, so many of the most proven big-name coordinators are on the defensive side of the ball. The biggest name of the bunch, Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables, has bypassed several head coaching opportunities to remain with the Tigers, and he’s done a fantastic job, most recently against Alabama in the title game last winter.
