MARYLAND — Oktoberfest has its root in a German festival that celebrated a royal wedding with drinking and feasting. But whether you love oompah music and the polka, or just love beer and brats, there are celebrations to be found across Maryland. Some involve steamed crabs — it is Maryland, after all — but you will also find Bavarian cuisine, beer and concerts.

Here are some Oktoberfest events across the state that should be tons of fun for adults and families:

  • Oktoberfest: Rockville, Oct. 4 — The Rockville German Band will perform at Oktoberfest from 5 to 7 p.m. Enjoy beer, traditional German food, live music, 50/50 Raffle and dancing.
  • Crabtoberfest: Cambridge, Oct. 5 — Food, beer, live music and fun await you! Enjoy the traditional cuisine of both Germany and the Eastern Shore, including steamed crabs, at the Governor’s Hall at Sailwinds Park.
  • Oktoberfest: Huntingtown, Oct. 5 — Seasonal beer and wine, German cuisine, live music, games for all ages including stein hoisting competition, craft vendors, silent auction, 50/50 raffle and more. Proceeds benefit Project ECHO Homeless Shelter and other ministries.
  • Oktoberfest/Lagerbier: Baltimore, Oct. 5 — Stein Day 2019 takes place from noon to 8 p.m. in an Oktoberfest-style tented biergarten and on the patio.
  • Rotary Oktoberfest of Carroll County: Westminster, Oct. 5-6 — This is a fundraising event held by the four Rotary Clubs of Carroll County at Danele Shipley Memorial Arena. Enjoy family friendly activities and authentic German food, beer and live music. Plenty of contests including the Lederhosen & Dirndl competition, a chicken dance contest and polka dance contest. There will be pumpkin painting, scarecrow making, face painting, magic shows, games and balloon sculpting for kids. Football tent ensures you don’t miss the action over the weekend. General admission is $10, with those wearing authentic German attire and children ages 10 and under free – or save $2 with 5 nonperishable donation for the animal rescue.
  • Rocktobierfest (Oct. 5): This fun-filled event will feature two stages of entertainment, German food, kids activities, artisans, and drinks for sale by local breweries and vendors. Rocktobierfest, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., is expected to attract more than 5,000 people to Rockville Town Center. Located at 200 E. Middle Lane, Rockville.
  • Germantown Oktoberfest (Oct. 5): Oktoberfest returns to Germantown on Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a parade, live music, a beer garden, free giveaways, and more. The parade route is on Century Boulevard, starting at UpCounty Regional Services Center and ending at the police station. The beer garden and live music will be at BlackRock Center for the Arts. Located along Century Boulevard, Germantown.
  • ARToberFEST: Stevensville, Oct. 5 — Enjoy this celebration of local food, music, artisans and breweries in historic Stevensville.
  • Olde Mother Brewing Oktoberfest: Frederick, Oct. 6 — Tickets include a custom-branded commemorative mug, two beer tokens for 20 oz. mug pours, Weisswurst and Bavarian Bratwurst (shipped from Germany), German potato salad and homemade beer mustard all by the great Chef Niko at Roast House Pub. Traditional German music by the Edelweiss Band.
  • Baroque Oktoberfest – Bach’s Cantata 20 & Telemann’s Tafelmusik: Baltimore, Oct. 6 — Bach in Baltimore opens its 2019-2020 season with a taste of German Baroque music traditions in the Baroque Oktoberfest concert, featuring Bach’s “Cantata 20” and is paired with Telemann’s “Tafelmusik II: Ouverture Suite in D major,” which represents the peak of 16th-century courtly table music. After the concert guests will enjoy some beer and German wursts with the Maestro and members of the Bach in Baltimore Choir.
  • PIKEtoberfest2019 (Oct. 6): PIKEtoberfest2019 returns Oct. 6 and will feature live music, kids activities, a sand castle exhibit, and a craft beer garden. The fun starts at noon at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda. Located at 11580 Old Georgetown Rd., North Bethesda.
  • Oktoberfest Beer Tasting: Annapolis, Oct. 9— Join others in tasting some delicious, malty Märzen-style bier from all over the country and celebrate the spirit of Bavaria! Tasting is complimentary. Prost!!
  • Oktoberfest: Silver Spring, Oct. 11-13— This will be the first Silver Branch Oktoberfest Weekend. Attendees will be sharing liters of Silver Branch OKTOBERFEST Märzen and celebrating the season. Get ready for music, steinholding competitions, Lederhosen/Dirndel contests, afternoon kids activities and beer.
  • Havre de Grace Oktoberfest: Havre de Grace, Oct. 12 — A family friendly event with German beer/wine and German entertainment.
  • Oktoberfest: Riverdale, Oct. 12 — The Station will host its first Oktoberfest celebration from noon to 8 p.m. There will be live entertainment, food, kids activities and beer. Kids entertainment includes face painting, glitter tattoos, pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts, stilt walkers and jugglers. Throughout the celebration, Whole Foods will be selling authentic Oktoberfest brats, hot dogs, pretzels and raw oysters. Be sure to grab a beer from Denizens beer garden and challenge your friends and family to a friendly cornhole tournament- where you’ll have the opportunity to win lots of give-a-ways… not to mention bragging rights.
  • Oktoberfest Potluck: Hanover, Oct. 12 — It’s time to break out your lederhosen and fill up your bier stein because the Baltimore Supper Club is having an Oktoberfest potluck. The theme of this dinner party will be your very favorite German cuisine, like potato salad, spaetzle, pretzels and cabbage galore.
  • Okoberfest – Kentlands (Oct. 13): Grab your dirndl or lederhosen and get ready to Prost. Oktoberfest is on Oct. 13 from noon to 5 p.m. The festival will take place in and around the Arts Barn, Kentlands Mansion, and Kentlands Village Green, and along Main Street and Market Square. Enjoy traditional festival food, drinks from local breweries and wineries, and live music from the Alte Kameraden German Band and Alt-Washingtonia Bavarian Dancers. Activities include professional pumpkin carving and apple cider pressing demonstrations, free horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting, and more. Admission and parking are free. Located at 320 Kent Square Rd., Gaithersburg.
  • Berlin Octoberfest: Berlin, Oct. 19 — Music, German food, craft vendors, annual fall sidewalk sale, beer garden, games and activities such as face painting, scarecrow making, pumpkin painting and others for the kids. Annual cornhole tournament at Burley Tavern.
  • Oktoberfest Live: Baltimore, Oct. 19 — Whether you are stuffing your face with pretzels & brauts, competing in the Stein Holding or chicken dancing to the live music there is plenty to keep you entertained. Enjoy a day of unlimited sampling of craft beer.
  • Oktoberfest at Schifferstadt: Frederick, Oct. 19-20 — Annual event on the third weekend in October. Free admission. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Enjoy great food, lively German music, historic demonstrators and hand-made products from many art and craft vendors hosted by the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation at the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum.
  • Oktoberfest: Columbia, Oct. 19 — Join the Knights of Columbus Columbia Council 7559 in celebrating a fun filled evening of authentic German and Polish music, food and beer. The fun begins at 6 p.m. The TKO band will perform a variety of German and Polish tunes. Authentic German food is included in the price of admission. Net proceeds will be donated to the Columbia Council’s charity fund.
