MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Incoming freshmen to Meridian Community College went to orientation this morning for one last time before the Fall 2019 semester begins.

There were over 180 students at the Friday orientation, and they first met in the McCain Theater to watch a video welcoming them to MCC and teaching them about what it’s in store as they attend the college. Staff and MCC are encouraging the incoming class to stay focused and get involved on the campus this year.

“Today, [the incoming freshmen are] going to get a campus tour, they’re going to get acquainted with some of our faculty and staff, and most importantly, they’ll get registered for classes,” says Ashley Tanksley, a recruiting coordinator for MCC. “So just a fun event to get them oriented with our campus and know what MCC has to offer.”

One student we spoke with will be in studying nursing and is excited to begin her college career at MCC.

“I plan on getting my associates here and then moving on towards like a bachelor’s and then eventually maybe a nurse practitioner, says Emilee Clark. “My grandmother was a nurse, and we have a big family full of just medical field, so I’m really passionate about that.”

Fall semester classes for Meridian Community College students begin on August 19th.
